Getting started

A training exercise: two people practising, a trainer guiding them

You train right alongside everyone

At the trial session you're not just watching. You learn first techniques and try them out yourself. You train with a steel weapon from your very first session. Practice is controlled and follows set drills — free sparring comes later.

You get shown everything

You don't need any prior experience. The trainer explains the exercises, shows you how to safely handle the weapon, and guides you through your first steps.

You train with others

You practise together with the rest of the group. With usually 8–12 people, groups stay small and you get direct feedback from the trainer.

What should I bring?

Comfortable sportswear is enough. We provide the right weapon for you.

What is the minimum age?

Training starts at age 14. Under 18s need the consent of a parent or guardian.

Voices from our members

Leon is member since 2019

“I love that intense moment just before the swords cross; complete focus, full-body tension, becoming one with the sword. And whether it’s a longsword, rapier, or poleaxe, it’s always fun!“

Kirsten with the longsword

“Fencing is a great sport for fun and movement! It trains the whole body and boosts self-confidence. Another bonus is the great community.“

Kirsten Member since 2023
Flo is member since 2008

“I wanted to understand and learn how people fought with swords in the Middle Ages. The trainers’ in-depth knowledge and experience have made that possible. Training has also greatly improved my self-confidence and body awareness, which I really appreciate.“

Flo Member since 2008
Clara with rapier and dagger

“One of my childhood heroes is a female knight. When I first heard about HEMA, I thought: I could basically be one too! I love learning new techniques based on historical sources because it challenges both my mind and body. Practicing a sequence with a sparring partner feels almost like dancing, just much more powerful.“
